About the event

About the Instructor: Delayne Segar fell in love with pine needle basket weaving after taking a workshop at the Blanden Art Museum in Fort Dodge taught by Nadine Spier over 10 years ago. Since then she has explored different uses of pine needles, entered her work in various art shows, and taught basket weaving classes. She also enjoys painting portraits and farm scenes using pastels and watercolors.

Class Description: Learn the ancient art of Pine Needle Basketweaving. All supplies needed to weave a small pine needle basket will be provided with instructions on selecting materials, attaching cabochon to vinyl, attaching pine needles, adding to the bundle of needles, changing thread, constructing the basket, and finishing off the top of the basket. Most weavers can finish the small basket during the 3-hour workshop with focused work.

Additional Class Information:

Material Fee: $15 is payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop. You will receive one 30 x 40 cabochon glued to vinyl, sewing needle, and pine needles to complete approx. 4 1/2 inch by 4" by 1 1/2 inch pine needle basket, Waxed Irish Linen Thread, and instructions. A variety of cabochons and different colored threads will be supplied.

This workshop is free (not including supply fees) to current Iowa Artists members. For non-members, it’s $25.00 (not including supply fees). You may join the group if you like. You will be billed at the time of registration. Iowa Artists offers Regional Art Shows in the spring and other events during the year. Visit their website for more workshops: iowaartists.us.
